(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “Violating the rights of the prisoners in Saudi Arabia begins at the arresting stage with the Interior Ministry’s security forces raiding the revolutionaries houses or using other methods to cause fear and terror,” Reza Ashtiani Araqi said on Saturday. He stressed that the condition of the political prisoners in Saudi Arabia is a clear violation of the rights of prisoners and is against all international charters and conventions.“The people who are arrested during the protests in Saudi Arabia are transferred to different prisons in this country...and are jailed with criminals, smugglers, murderers and thieves which shows the Al Saud regime’s inattention to the rights of the prisoners,” Ashtiani noted. The Iranian lawmaker pointed out that the Al Saud regime pursues its brutal policies towards the people of Saudi Arabia and prevents the establishment of political parties in the country.“Al Saud always controls the public opinion and freedom of speech and does not protect basic and civil freedoms and continues to violate human rights on a large scale,” he concluded.Since February 2011, protesters have held demonstrations on an almost regular basis in Saudi Arabia, mainly in the Qatif region and the town of Awamiyah in Eastern Province, primarily calling for the release of all political prisoners, freedom of expression and assembly, and an end to widespread discrimination. However, the demonstrations have turned into protests against the Al Saud regime, especially since November 2011, when security forces killed five protesters and injured many others in the province.According to Human Rights Watch, the Saudi regime “routinely represses expression critical of the government.” Activists say there are over 30,000 political prisoners in Saudi Arabia. /129
